New Orleans Civic Symphony

Join Dr. Charles Taylor and the New Orleans Civic Symphony at the University of New Orleans Performing Arts Center recital hall for an evening of fun and familiar classics. On the program is Modest Modest Mussorgsky’s (1839–1881), Night on Bald Mountain (1886), Edvard Grieg’s (1843-1907), Peer Gynt Suite #1 (1875), W.A. Mozart’s (1756 – 1791), Overture from Don Giovanni (1787), and Sir Edward Elgar’s (1857 – 1934), Serenade for Strings (1892).

New Orleans Civic Symphony: Spring Concert

Angels in Flight

Musaica Chamber Ensemble continues its 13th Season with a concert of celestial music including “Angels in Flight” by Marjan Mozetich, a beautiful and ethereal work for harp, flute, clarinet, and string quartet; and the lyrical Piano Quartet in A major by Johannes Brahms. Recommended donation $20 adults/$10 students and seniors. Reception following the concert.

Aizuri String Quartet

Musical Excursions International Chamber Music Series at the University of New Orleans opens their 2018-2019 season with Aizuri. The Aizuri String Quartet has been praised by the Washington Post for “captivating” performances that draw from its notable “meld of intellect, technique and emotions.” Aizuri was awarded the prestigious $100,000 Grand Prize at the 2018 M Prize Chamber Arts Competition and First Prize at the 2017 Osaka Internation Chamber Music Competition in Japan. Through its engaging and thought-provoking programs, the Quartet has garnered critical acclaim for bringing “a technical bravado and emotion power” to bold new commissions, and for its “flawless” (San Diego Union Tribune) performances of the great masterpieces of the past in which “every note is lovingly crafted and savored” (Washington Post).

Duo Violinist Eunice Kim & Bassist Xavier Foley

A pair of brilliant, young, award-winning performers join forces to create an evening of music that plumbs the depths, skates to the edges, and embraces the baroque to the now. Violinist Eunice Kim and bassist Xavier Foley, both Curtis grads and Astral Award winners, will include some new Foley compositions and improvisations in the program.
